Calling all oyster shuckers!

PRIZES: The first-place winner of the Guinea Jubilee Oyster Shucking Contest shall receive a trophy, 100% of the entry fee pool money, and a free entry for the 2026 Contest to defeat the title. The second and third place winners will be awarded a trophy.
RULES AND PROCEDURES
- Oysters for use by the contestants will be provided and place them in a provided container. Contestants will shuck FIFTEEN (15) oysters.
- There will be 4 shucking stations per round.
- The shucker removes the oysters from his/her container and arranges them for shucking.
- Shuckers will be provided chainmail gloves and an oyster knife, however shuckers may use their own knives.
- Each shucker will have a separate timekeeper.
- At a signal, simultaneously all timekeepers start their stopwatches and shuckers their shucking.
- Contestants place each oyster on an unbroken half-shell and arrange all neatly on the tray provided. Oysters should be whole, uncut and free from soil.
- When a contestant has completed shucking and has arranged the oysters to his/her satisfaction, he/she will raise both hands overhead and step back from the shucking table. The timekeeper will stop his watch immediately. A shucker may not touch the tray of oysters after he/she has signaled completion.
- PENALTIES:
Time penalties will be added for the following infractions:
A. Oyster on a broken shell ADD 1 second
B. Oyster not properly placed on shell ADD 2 seconds
C. Oyster not served from the shell ADD 3 seconds
D. Oyster showing grit or foreign matter ADD 3 seconds
E. Cut or damaged oyster ADD 3 seconds
F. Missing oyster ADD 20 secondsBonus: MINUS 10 seconds for a perfect tray presentation
- Each shucking time (in seconds) will be recorded and each Judge reports his Penalty Time. The times for each shucker is then computed and recorded on the sheet. The winner in each heat is that contestant who has the lowest total seconds (Shucking and penalty seconds) and has not been disqualified by the judges for not complying with the rules.
- Upon completion of the last heat, the top THREE (3) winners will be announced.
ALL CONTESTANTS ENTER CONTEST AT THEIR OWN RISK. THE GUINEA HERITAGE ASSOCIATION, THE GUINEA JUBILEE COMMITTEE MEMBERS, OR MATEHESON OYSTER COMPANY ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY INJURIES OR LOSSES.
ALL DECISIONS BY JUDGES ARE FINAL
Participation shall stand as a contestant’s agreement that the Guinea Heritage Association/Guinea Jubilee may utilize photographs taken of the contest and contestant’s, by its assigned photographers, for publicity purposes in the future, without monetary or other obligation to any contestant inclusive of the winner of the competition.
